Davis remains in play for Aggie tennis

Sophomore McKenzie Davis is the lone Aggie remaining in the main draw for the Utah State women’s tennis team heading into the final day of competition today at the BYU Invitational.

Davis began battled BYU’s Morgan Anderson 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. She then advanced to the finals after her semifinal opponent, Veronica Popovici of Wyoming, withdrew due to injury. Davis will play Simona Synkova of Wyoming today in the main draw finals.

Senior Julie Tukuafu is the only other Aggie remaining in singles and will play in the consolation semifinals today. After a first round consolation bye, Tukuafu walked through Weber State’s Michelle Warwick 6-0, 6-0 and withstood Boise State’s Manuela Pietzuch in a third set tiebreaker 5-7, 6-4, 10-6, to earn her semifinal match with Jessica Parizher of Wyoming.

Freshman Amber Stuhlmann advanced to the main draw semi finals Friday before falling to Titi Espinosa of Wyoming 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, freshman Kallie Sperry and senior Kristina Voytsekhovich defeated a Weber State duo 8-2 in the quarterfinals and will continue play today.

Senior Jaci West withdrew from the singles and doubles brackets due to injury. She and partner Davis advanced to the second round of the doubles main draw.
