Students looking for something besides a couch and potato chips this weekend have another option. There is a 3-on-3-basketball tournament going on Saturday and anyone who wants to can participate.

Cash prizes and coupons will be given to the winning team. There are going to be teams made up of USU students and others in the community, Weston Burnett, a junior majoring in accounting, said. The tournament is part of a fundraiser to establish a microloan system provided by the College of Business.

“100 percent of our proceeds are going to help underprivileged people in South America,” Michon Covington, a junior majoring in accounting, said. “It’s a great cause.”

“We’ve worked really hard as a group,” Covington said. “We are really excited for people to come out and support a good cause and have fun while doing it.”

The entry fee is $30 per team and teams can be made up of three or four players. Payment is only accepted in the form of a check made out to the USU College of Business. Registration forms can be picked up and turned in at the business building (Dean’s office, room 202), Al’s Sporting Goods and Firehouse Pizza, or just bring money and register at the event.

The tournament will be held in the HPER building basketball courts on Saturday, April 7. Check in is at 9:30 a.m. and games start at 10 a.m.

“It will be a good chance for everyone to demonstrate their skills against some good competition,” Burnett said.
