Aggie softball coach calls it quits

Utah State University softball coach Debbie Bilbao has resigned her position effective immediately, it was announced Sunday.

“I would like to thank Utah State for the opportunity to become a head coach at such a young age,” said Bilbao. “The experience I gained will be invaluable for the future. I learned a lot in my time here and I am appreciative of the support I have received from the department. I wish USU the best of luck.”

This past season the Aggies began Big West play with a 3-0 record, sweeping three-time defending Big West Champion Cal State Fullerton, but then dropped 17-straight games before finishing the year with a 10-41 record overall, including a 6-15 conference mark.

“We accept Coach Bilbao’s resignation and are grateful for her efforts these past three years,” said Kevin Dustin, Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. “We wish her well as she pursues new opportunities in her life.”

During Bilbao’s three-year stint, the Aggies were 30-125 overall and 17-49 in Big West action. USU also earned three conference honorable mention selections under Bilbao, including Jessica Garnett this season.

Bilbao, who was born in Sandy, Utah, was a three-time All-America pitcher at Iowa before starting her coaching career at her alma mater from 1998-99. She then worked as an assistant at Sacramento State before coming to USU ahead of the 2002 season–
