New Distance Education programs being lined up for Fall 2009 at USU

Beginning fall 2009, a bachelor’s degree in management information systems, as well as two new online minor programs, will be available through Utah State University’s Regional Campuses and Distance Education system.

“We are working hard to expand our degree offerings to meet the growing needs of our current and potential students,” said Vince Lafferty, executive director of program development for Regional Campuses and Distance Education. “In this uncertain economy, many people are deciding to start or finish a degree.”

The bachelor’s degree in management information systems, offered in partnership with USU’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, allows students to meet the increasing demand for computer-savvy business people in the work force. Courses will be taught via interactive broadcast to centers and campuses throughout Utah.

Online minors in journalism and Spanish will also be available beginning fall 2009. The minor in journalism, offered online, includes an emphasis in public relations. Emphases in print journalism and broadcast/electronic media will be added in the future. This program combines practical mass communications skills training along with understanding the relationship, roles and interactions of mass communication.

The online minor in Spanish gives students the opportunity to gain foreign language accreditation in conjunction with their chosen major program, which will give students a competitive edge in any field. The program focuses on Spanish and Latin American culture, civilization and literature.

A distance-delivered Master of Fine Arts in art with a specialization in graphic design and an online minor in art education are currently being developed and are scheduled to begin fall 2009.
