Debate attendance.

I’m very disappointed that I missed the ASUSU elections debate. I was looking forward to it. I kept checking my Statesman on Monday looking for a time and place, but never found one, so I assumed the debate would be after primaries. Then I read the Statesman on Wednesday and found out that I missed it.

Also in Wednesday’s paper, an advisor of the ASUSU made a comment about it was “pretty well-publicized” in an article about how only 25 students showed up. I suppose they had posters up before spring break, but I never saw one. This week would have been impossible to see one because of all the campaigning and people throwing candy at you. They must have been in the TSC, but I never make it to the TSC with my heavy Engineering/Computer Science schedule.

I think the biggest reason for lack of attendance was the “pretty well” placed publicity was in the wrong place. You want people to come, you need to put your publicity in places where the people that care are definitely going to see it, and the most obvious answer there is the newspaper. I noticed that in Monday’s paper, the space for the main announcements for Tuesday is completely blank. I’m sure the Statesman would have gladly filled up the space.

Also I think some criticism goes to the Statesman for not taking initiative and finding out when this important event was going to happen. Not informing your readers of this was a disservice to them.
