ASUSU presidential debate on for Thursday

Utah State University students can visit https://webmail.usu.edu to vote in the Associated Students of USU primary elections until noon Wednesday. The candidates who win the primary will be announced at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Taggart Student Center Sunburst Lounge.

A debate between the presidential candidates will be held on the TSC Patio Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Polls close at 5 p.m. Friday, and the ASUSU officers for next year will be announced at 5:30 p.m. in the TSC Sunburst Lounge.

Bios for candidates can be viewed at http://a-station.usu.edu/about/candidates and students can meet them at the Finals Forum Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sunburst Lounge.

Catch ‘The Voices of Polynesia’ Saturday

A Polynesian luau, “Voices of Polynesia,” will be held Saturday in the Taggart Student Center Ballroom. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and a show will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for students, $11 for general admission and $4 for students to attend the show only.

Tickets can be purchased in the TSC Ticket Office.

International banquet tickets on sale now

Tickets are now available for the International Banquet to be held on April 3 at 7 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center Ballroom.

A buffet-style dinner with food from all over the world will be served and there will be a cultural show. The event is sponsored by the International Student Council. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for USU students and children.

“We wanted a show that reflects the music, dance and images of some of the 93 countries that represent our international student body at Utah State,” said Maribeth Evensen-Hengge, an adviser in the office of International Students and Scholars. “We have compiled an entertaining program of dances from Indonesia, China and Japan, as well as songs from Pakistan and India.”

Tickets must be purchased at the Spectrum Ticket Office by March 31, since they will not be available at the door.

A conservative feast to be held Friday

Conservative activist and author of the Academic Bill of Rights David Horowitz will be the keynote speaker Friday during a dinner at the Copper Mill at 7 p.m. in Logan.

Horowitz will speak about “Academic freedom on America’s college campuses.” Congressman Rob Bishop will also be speaking on “How college and high school students can make the difference.” State Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will discuss “College students and the future of Utah.”

Second congressional candidate John Swallow and State Party Chairman Joe Cannon will also be in attendance. Finally, State Chairman of Utah College Republicans Tom Robins will speak on the State Convention’s theme: “2,000 in 2,004!” based on the commitment to make up the margin that Republicans lost by in the second congressional district in 2002.

To top the evening off, the USU Ballroom Dance Team will provide entertainment.

Students and community members are welcome to attend, and can buy a ticket at www.usu.edu/republicans for $15.

GOP caucus meetings scheduled for Tuesday

The Cache County Republican Party will be holding caucus meetings at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23. All residents regardless of party affiliation are encouraged to attend the caucus in their community.
