Utah Donor Registry tops one million people

The Utah Donor Registry now has recorded over one million potential organ and tissue donors.

Krista Aller, a female social worker from Logan, was the one-millionth person to sign up on the registry.

This milestone will be celebrated as community representatives unveil a commemorative billboard campaign located at 2100 South and east of State Street, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.

Aller will explain why she joined the Utah Donor Registry. Alex McDonald, president of the Utah Coalition for Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation, will remark on the success of the registry.

Research celebration held for undergrads

State officials will once again have the opportunity to see firsthand some of the finest students in Utah.

Students from Utah State University and the University of Utah will exhibit their undergraduate research projects at the rotunda of the capitol in Salt Lake City, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The third annual “Posters on the Hill: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research,” will give elite students who attend USU and the U of U, the opportunity to discuss the importance of research education and present their research projects to state legislators.

President Kermit L. Hall said, “Since Utah State opened its doors in 1890 to 139 students, it has been engaged in developing citizen-scholars. The tradition of hard-working students over more than a century has fueled the unprecedented economic success of Utah.”

Joyce Kinkead, vice provost for Undergraduate Studies and Research, said, “We are proud to shine the spotlight on these students who were nominated and selected to participate in our third Posters on the Hill event.”
