OLRC to hold auditions Jan. 25

The Old Lyric Repertory Company (OLRC) is holding auditions to fill specific roles for its developing 2003 summer season. Auditions will be Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. in the Morgan Theatre in the Chase Fine Arts Center.

OLRC is a professional, summer theatre program offered by the department of theatre at Utah State University.

Available roles include, a 13-15-year-old boy, a woman around 40 years old, a naive young woman with light-colored hair, a male singer (specifically a bass) and a woman around 60 years old. Roles available are limited to these criteria, according to a USU press release.

Candlelight vigil to be held Tuesday

The Black Student Union and Multicultural Student Services (MSS) will sponsor a candlelight vigil honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Tuesday at 6 p.m in the Sunburst Lounge.

“The vigil is an opportunity for people of different cultural backgrounds to unite and celebrate the advancement of human rights,” said Christine Christensen, activities/leadership coordinator for MSS.

The evening will promote awareness of Martin Luther King’s dream and will honor other individuals who strive for racial equality.

Speakers at the candlelight vigil will include Darnel Haney, an artist and facilitator from Ogden, and USU students Doug Beazer, Jamal Jaber and Gabe Carter.

The audience will also have the opportunity to light a candle in honor of Dr. King and the continued efforts he inspired.

Attendance at the event has grown over the past three years.

Safiyyah Ballard, president of the Black Student Union, said, “In my two years living in Logan, I have seen a growth in the interest of

multiculturalism.”

Musicians who have had a hard time booking gigs in the past have relief in sight.

Wedding gala held Jan. 25

The Temple Square Hospitality Corporation will present a distinctly diverse wedding gala, Saturday, Jan. 25 at Salt Lake’s Premier Wedding Show.

The event, which will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. will allow newly engaged couples to book their entire wedding experience with over 40 diverse vendors.

Live music will greet guests, and displays will include a bridal gown showcase, a mock wedding reception, food buffets and demonstrations in all three locations, with giveaways and prizes awarded throughout the day.

“This is the one show absolutely everyone planning a wedding should plan to attend,” said Dianne Theurer, general manager.
