Aggie gymnastics to open season on Sunday

In its second season as a member of the Western Gymnastics Conference, the Utah State gymnastics team will open its 2003 season as it travels to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.

The University of Illinois Chicago will also participate in the meet.

“It’s important that we get the best possible start that we can get,” said Aggie Head Coach Ray Corn. “I’m sure its going to be a very tough competition and we all know, whatever sport your in, its hard to win in California.”

Corn said he didn’t know anything about UIC, but looking at last year’s records, he thinks that USU should defeat CSF by at least one point.

The Titans are returning 10 letterwinners, including 2002 NCAA all-around qualifier Kelly Mathiasen. She recorded a 39.025 at nationals.

“We are going to have a very strong test right from the very beginning,” Corn said.
