BLOTTER: Police news from the campus and community

News editor’s note: The following blotter entries represent the first incidents reported to Utah State University Police for 2003.

Jan. 1, 20031:29 p.m. A gray, men’s mountain bicycle was found south of Merrill Hall on the grass. The bicycle was impounded because it was abandoned.

9 p.m. Police responded to the Spectrum on a report of leaking water. Police discovered a broken pipe under a sink in a concessions area on the concourse. The water was shut off and a custodian was called out to clean up the water.

9:51 p.m. Police responded to the east side of Valley View Tower on a report of some suspicious people there. An individual claimed to be smoking a cigarette at that spot. There was no evidence of illegal activity.

Jan. 2, 20036:28 a.m. Police assisted an airline lost-and-found luggage company to drop off four bags at Mountain View Tower. The bag owners were notified that their bags were found and delivered to Mountain View Tower.

9:26 a.m. Police responded to a fire alarm at Jones Hall. The alarm was activated while the system was being worked on. The alarm will be reset after the work is finished.

10:38 a.m. Police responded to a panic alarm at the USU Bookstore. It was discovered that the alarm was accidentally activated by an employee.

6:59 p.m. Police responded to an intrusion alarm at the Space Dynamics Laboratory. The area was searched for people and problems. Nothing was found to be out of place and the alarm was reset.
