USU formal takes on new twist
alumni.
Programming officers have changed the name of the Spring Formal dance to the Blue Carpet Ball, said the event’s chair Leah Enzler. Enzler said the event will see a few minor tweaks, but the new moniker is the biggest difference.
“It’s something that fits the Aggies a little more,” she said. “It’s a little less generic and something I think more people can relate to.”
The dance is Saturday in the Taggart Student Center and will cost couples $12 and singles $7. Enzler said the event will be slightly more formal than years past, in an effort to make up for the cancellation of the traditional Homecoming dance in favor of a more casual event.
“It’s a little bit more fancy and formal and elegant,” she said. “It’s our only formal dance of the year … it’s important to build up and focus on the one dance.”
Enzler said she recognized the name change could turn some Aggies away, but said by inviting alumni, she hopes this years dance will exceed last year’s turnout.
“The hope is to continue to see it get bigger and bigger each year,” she said.
The dance will feature performances from William Joseph, a pianist who was worked with recording artist Josh Groban. Other entertainment will include swing dancing, live bands and a DJ.
“It’s going to be a wonderful event that Aggies can come to and ejoy,” Enzler said. “It’s cheaper than any average date, and it’s something different to mix up every Saturday night activity.”
