Bell’s dash earns him award
Editor’s note: Scott Bell was named the USU athlete of the week for the week of April 3-7.
Utah Statesman: What is your favorite food?
Scott Bell: My favorite type of food is the sweet pork burrito at Costa Vida.
US: What is your favorite beverage?
SB: Mountain Dew Pitch Black. It kind of tastes like a lime ricky, but mountain dewy.
US: When did you start running?
SB: Competitively, I started running in 8th grade for junior high.
US: Why did you start running?
SB: Because I really do love the thrill of competing and the thrill of winning.
US: What does it take to compete at the college level?
SB: My mom taught me when I was little kid that success is a matter of choice. So, I’d say it takes a good deal of drive and desire.
US: What is your favorite memory?
SB: Wow, so many. My favorite memory I would probably say was when I was five. I remember getting a Teddy Ruckstin. It was a little doll and he spoke and I got it for Christmas. I was at my uncle’s house and I was so stoked because I got one and everybody wanted one.
US: What is your favorite animal?
SB: There’s a lot of animals in the world. Let’s stick with spider monkeys. They’re just so fun and playful, how can you not like monkeys?
US: What is one thing you’ve wanted to do but haven’t been able to?
SB: I’ve always wanted to backpack through Europe. Always wanted to do it. I love to travel and I’d love to see everything over there.
US: What’s one place you’d like to go but haven’t been?
SB: This is kind of contradictory but I’d really like to go to Japan. Mostly just because I’m drawn to big cities. I’d love to see some of the big cities they have there.
US: How did you end up in Logan?
SB: I’m from Layton, so not too far. Coming out of high school I knew I wanted to get away, live on my own. Honestly Utah State has the best hurdle program. I was very impressed with the coaches and that’s why I chose Utah State.
US: What is your favorite thing about USU?
SB: I love Cache Valley in the spring and summer time. I think it’s so beautiful and there’s so much to do. I really love the valley.
US: What is your least favorite thing about USU?
SB: Probably going to class really early in the morning when it’s freezing cold and the wind blows. I hate it. On the flip side of the coin I wish USU was in a bigger city.
US: What are your goals for the future?
SB: One of my life goals is to help overseas movie makers get their films on American screens and get their ideas onto the screens.
US: Where did you get that dream?
SB: I’ve always loved movies and ever since high school I’ve been interested in filmography and everything like that. When I went on my mission I realized there are a lot of different cultures with different ideas. A lot of American movies fall into the same ruts – very predictable, and foreign films are new and bright and different and I absolutely love it.
