LETTER: Calling gets you nowhere

Editor,

After the last snowfall more than two weeks ago, I noticed a huge pile of snow pushed on top of the only staircase between the radio tower parking lots and the Bullen Hall resident parking lot.

Being a student and being made to walk the distance from any of these parking facilities, it kind of unnerved me to have my only access blocked by snow.

I called Physical Plant, asked for the person in charge of snow removal and explained the situation. The answer I received was that he would look into the matter and that they had just hired some new employees. That call was over a week ago, and I think that is about the only snow left on campus, which looks like it’s there to stay until spring.

I wonder what it takes to get hired on at the university into the snow removal department and what kind of mentality you are required to have. Common sense at least tells met that if there is a staircase, don’t pile all the snow from one parking lot on top of it.

And the follow-up of a request to remove the snow was a simple matter, but one which seems to be of no importance to the “suits,” even though it is of extreme importance to students.

One slip-and-fall accident would not only incapacitate the student, but would financially hurt us all in the payout of insurance funding, apparently coming out of our well-used tuition.

Let’s face it snow-removal people. Get someone, possibly the “suit” over there, and get the snow cleaned up. Make it a little easier for us students to get to class. Oops — I forgot. This is Utah State University where nothing is easy.
