Fife film and folklore festival announced

The Utah State University Folklore Program, department of English and College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences will host a day of lectures and activities on film and folklore. Joanna Hearne, an expert on film and folklore at the University of Missouri, Columbia, will deliver the Fife Keynote, “Stories on Screen: Indigenous Cultures and the Work of Video,” on June 8, from 10-11 a.m., in the Eccles Business Building, room 215.

Hearne will also present an “Animation Celebration,” consisting of short films made by Native American filmmakers. Finally, she will host a workshop on interpreting film. All events are free and open to the public. Children accompanied by their parents are welcome to attend the “Animation Celebration.”

Thursday, June 8, Business 215, 8:30-9:45 a.m.: “Animation Celebration: Native American Programs for Children;” 10-11 a.m., keynote lecture: “Stories on Screen: Indigenous Cultures and the Work of Video;” 12:15-1:30 p.m., Keynote followup: questions and answers; 1:45-3 p.m., workshop: “How to Read a Film.”
