LETTER: Remember what we stand for

Editor,

I am very disappointed in the attitude of what I hope is a limited number of students here at USU regarding the treatment of others.

I came to address this situation after an occurrence in my military history class where a member of the ROTC made a suggestion to another student to refrain his comments in the class, although his comments were relevant to the current topic being discussed. Then, the cadet was commended for his fine performance in the humiliation of another by fellow cadets and other students in the class.

I feel that it is important for this to be recognized, because in our Constitution we are allotted freedom of speech, yet one of the people preparing to defend our Constitution was making an attempt to take away that right. Having a great love for my country and our military I am saddened by the lack of tolerance shown by those who were involved in trying to limit the freedom of a fellow student.

I, along with many others whom I have spoken with on this subject, feel appalled by the fact that those we have preparing to represent our country feel that it is not important to represent the things our country stands for.
