ASUSU votes to give money to diversity program

The Associated Students of Utah State University Executive Council passed a bill Tuesday requesting additional funding for the Campus Diversity Program.

Activities sponsored by the ASUSU Campus Diversity Committee will receive an additional $3,000. Of the money, $2,000 will be used for the Native American Powwow, and the remainder will be used for other events.

This is the first year the Executive Council has had a diversity vice president.

Tiffany Leo, ASUSU Campus Diversity vice president, said she was unsure of what activities she was going to be involved with throughout the year, so to finish off the semester, she asked for the additional funding.

Money that is not used will be put back into ASUSU’s Capital and Support account.

Mike Waggoner, ASUSU executive vice president, informed the council that its meeting with President Kermit L. Hall was changed from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Taggart Student Center. It is an informal meeting to discuss the status of the budget.

Hall has been meeting with various clubs and organizations throughout campus concerning the same topic.

Details concerning recipients of this year’s ASUSU Leadership Scholarships are still being finalized. Four students will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the next academic school year. The number of scholarships given out each year is dependent upon revenues received from the campus directory and interest-bearing accounts.

Waggoner also reminded the council about the United Student Association Rally on Wednesday at the Capitol.
