LETTER: Gun control not about fear
To the editor:
Over the past few days I have been reading the gun control debate. Finally a glimmer of intelligence has appeared in Mark Wilkinson’s letter to the editor. In his final paragraph he stresses accountability for yourself.
In this debate about gun control, guns are not the problem. A gun by itself is totally harmless. A problem arises when the gun is in the hands of someone who is not accountable for their own actions.
I am a student here at USU. I feel safe on campus and have no need to carry a gun here. However, I do have the right to carry a gun and I know there are consequences for my actions if I abuse that right. I would venture to say all people who are carrying guns legally also understand there are consequences for abusing their right. Gun control is another step toward relinquishing your right to think for yourself.
Gun control should be about accountability and education; not fear.
