LETTER: Constitution should be rigid

To the editor:

The Constitution is not a living breathing document. It has words and those words have meanings. The only valid way to change it is through amendments. Unfortunatley people are trying to rewrite the Constitution to fit their own desires and political ambitions. This is done through legislation, executive order, and the judiciary. I am very wary of people who think it is a living breathing document because they usually have an agenda behind very much like the pigs rewriting the rules on Animal Farm. Instead of depending on the Supreme Court the citizens need to read and study the Constitution so we can decide if the Supreme Court is doing its job. I challenge you to read through the Constitution and determine if the Patriot Act is Constitutional. Read the 10th amendment and then try to justify most of the federal government. Thomas Jefferson said “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” If you are interested try joining the Constitution club: www.usu.edu/constitution.
