LETTER: Complaints are baseless
To the editor:
To those of you who are slamming the football team: I ask you to stop slandering our team. You obviously know nothing about football and specifically, these players, and for you to promote dissent is not right.
The question has been asked: “Why don’t we recruit the star players from our local teams?” Well, for one, being a star in high school football does not mean that you are going to be anything in college. College football takes size, speed, ability, and intelligence. In high school, the 160 lb. fast kid can sprint down the sideline and catch a ball time and time again, but the same kid would get destroyed in college with no size. Stop bringing that up. That argument is faulty. I am sick of hearing it. If our local players were good enough for our team and the right fit at the right time, I am completely sure that we would not overlook them in favor of a non-local player.
Secondly, in response to Friday’s letter with the comment about the use of foul language of the players at the pool, how do you even know that they were football players? There went that argument. Also, how do you know what disciplined internally means? Are you a member of the coaching staff? Have you ever been “disciplined internally?” Oh yeah, you’ve done nothing of the sort. Lets chalk that argument up to speculation.
Thirdly, we complain because some of our players have recently been in trouble with the law. While I concede that this is not good for the image of the university, I feel compelled to remind you that, contrary to popular belief, the whole team hasn’t been arrested. There are players who work so hard day after day to do their best for this school, even while our students are writing letters to the editor promoting a betrayal. I am embarrassed that I go to the same university as those who are betraying a team with players that work so hard. I am appalled. Go Aggies, I’ll be on your side forever.
