Whining pays off – enjoy your fall break

Can you feel it?

It’s in the air.

Lofting on the chilly breezes coming out of the canyon, mixed with the smelt of fallen leaves, there is just a hint of freedom.

This Friday will be USU’s first ever fall break. But this eye in the storm of stress, tests and 25-page papers that is fall semester is not a result of mercy from the powers that be. Rather, it is the result of student petitions.

Call it a case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease or an example of how the system works for those who work the system. The fact remains, this Friday Cougars and Utes will be up to their elbows in classes with no one but themselves to blame for not being Aggies.

This much-needed day of solace is just one of many examples of students changing their university experience.

We recognize that we can’t get everything we want. But it’s been empirically proven, at this school at least, that if we get together and make our desires known, people will listen.

To everyone who worked to make this break possible, thank you. The day of vacation will make an excellent alternative to bashing our heads against the walls.

To anyone out there with an idea to make our time here in Logan better, go for it. It never hurts to try.
