Diwali offers an evening of Indian culture
The Indian Student Association at Utah State announces the annual Diwali celebration, an Indian cultural extravaganza. Diwali is the largest and most celebrated festivity in India.
According to a the Indian Student Association, its celebrations are comparable in glamour and importance to the United States’ Christmas celebrations. It is the favorite festival of the Indians, and is eagerly celebrated by many different religions.
To celebrate Diwali in India, homes are decorated, treats are given, and thousands of lamps are lit to give the night a magical touch, according to a ISA press release. At Utah State, hundreds of students have put together their ideas and talents to present a dynamic night filled with cultural music, spicy food and plenty of dancing.
Utah State has been holding this event for the past decade.
With over three hundred Utah State students putting this show together, it is one of the largest events coordinated on campus. The ISA is actually the international organization on campus. The members of this association will share with everyone a taste of the culture from their native land through this night of celebration and performance.
Utah State’s Diwali 2006 will be held in the TSC Ball Room on Saturday, October 14. The celebration is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm with a reception followed by a variety show at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm, and another variety show at 7:30 pm. Tickets for this lively night of festive music, skits and dances can be bought at the TSC ticket office for fifteen dollars
