LETTER: Two topics that need to die

To the editor:

First off, gun control. It seems the best argument against this has been, ‘well, I want to bring my gun so if someone tries something, I can shoot ’em dead’. So I need to be worried about your gun because you’re trying to be a hero and make the local news? In real life what will most likely happen is that someone will kick your butt, take your gun, shoot you with it, and then use it to hold up everyone else. Where’s the glory of your superior plan now? I’m not worried about your ability to control a gun. A 12-year-old can do that. It’s your ability to hold on to a gun. And chances are, if you’re carrying a gun, it’s because you lack the skill to take someone down in the first place.

Secondly, can we give the ‘I’m gay because I have no choice’ line a rest? You’re gay because you decided to act on feelings that you may or may not have control over, but the decision was still yours and you made it. But let’s say you’re right, though. Well then, being a heterosexual male, I should have all the rights to engage in any activity with any other female, regardless of marital status, and without consequence, because dang it, I was born that way. I go and do something with a girl and get her pregnant, what right does she have to demand that I support her or her child? I was just born that way and had no choice. Get over it. You’re gay and you choose to be. I don’t care if you are, it doesn’t bother me. Be whatever you want, but stop hiding behind the ‘I don’t have a choice’ crap. Since you’re so in love with men, why don’t you try to be one, and own up to your choices?
