More fees should go to libraries
Editor,
I had the chance to see a breakdown of my student fees the other week and found out something that is completely unacceptable. While $50 of my fee money was going to sports programs and another $17 to recreation, only $11 was going to the library.
This is insane. We are a university, and as President Hall has said repeatedly, we need to place academics first. The fee distribution mentioned above reflects quite the opposite. On a personal note, I can speak to the poor quality of our library’s collection – I haven’t been able to write a paper in the last three years with out requesting at least five items through interlibrary loan. We can do better than this, and I hope that as USU moves forward it can make investments where it counts: Knowledge.
