The Utah State University Middle Eastern Dance Club will host a performance Saturday evening featuring dancer Ansuya along with troupes Shazadi and Zivah and talent from Salt Lake City – and there will be plenty of belly dancing.

This will be MED’s third annual Soree and along with the show, the club will feature a belly dancing workshop taught by Ansuya.

Her workshop is called “Layered Dancing and Hot Combinations” and is based off her instructional videos.

Ansuya, who currently lives in Miami, was the winner of IAMED 2001 Best Cabaret Dancer Award and Winner of the Best Cabaret Dancer Golden Belly Award in 2003.

The workshops will run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in HPER Room 215 . Cost for the workshop is $60 in advance and $65 at the door. E-mail shimmy@www.usu.edu for tickets to the workshop. The performance will be held at the Morgan Theatre at 7:30 p.m. that night. Tickets are $7 in advance through the Spectrum and USU ticket office and $10 at the door. Call 753-9017.

The USUMED Club holds weekly dance classes and

works toward educating the community about Middle Eastern dance and music.

The purpose of the club is to provide an opportunity for people to learn Middle Eastern dance and to educate the community about the art and the music.
