Utah Statesman: Why did you pick USU?
Amy Hubbard: My father works here so I get a discount – plus, it’s close.
US: Who is your father?
Hubbard: John Hubbard, the chemistry professor.
US: Have you taken his class?
Hubbard: No I’m not a chemistry person. My sister has though.
US: What’s your favorite thing about USU?
Hubbard: Like I said, I live right by here so it’s easy to get to. It’s within walking distance, or, now that it’s cold, bike riding distance.
US: What are your plans for after college?
Hubbard: Get out of here here. I want to move somewhere – maybe be a lawyer.
US: Why a lawyer?
Hubbard: I’m really interested in criminal law and psychology.
US: If you were a superhero, what would your powers be?
Hubbard: To fly. Maybe to read minds too, but definitely flight.
US: What’s the hardest class you’ve ever taken?
Hubbard: Animal Physiology; it was a lot of information and a lot of memorization.
US: Do you have any pet-peeves?
Hubbard: People in class who need to think before they say anything. Most of the time their questions are really redundant. I think they just need to talk to feel smart.
US: What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen on campus?
Hubbard: Political debates out [on the TSC Patio]. They’re funny. I’m not into politics, but I do think its fun to watch them get all riled up and boo other people. It’s entertainment.
US: What is the grossest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Hubbard: Little baby octopuses – it was gross. I could feel their little sucker things in my mouth. I had the option to eat more and I turned it down.
US: If you could do anything in the world right now what would you do?
Hubbard: Travel back to Australia. My father took a sabbatical and we all went on tour down there. We lived in a place called Nerrellanvale for five months and traveled all around the Sydney area and New Zealand.
US: What’s your deepest darkest fear?
Hubbard: Sharks – definitely the sharks – because they can eat you and you can’t see them attack.
US: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
Hubbard: I’m not really a risk taker. Probably swimming in the Great Barrier Reef where there are sharks. And I saw some. They were 6 feet long, white Tip Reef sharks and I almost had a heart attack.
US: What five words would you use to describe yourself?
Hubbard: Nice, adventurous, outgoing, funny and average-smart.
US: What’s your philosophy on life?
Hubbard: Have as much fun as you can and work hard.
US: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Hubbard: People shouldn’t hate. We should all be nice to each other – and animals – no cruelty to animals.
