Body Language: Women call shots most of the time
The language of love is not so easy to understand.
However, decoding what someone is saying is not nearly as difficult as decoding their body language. Tyler Newbold, undeclared freshman, said he found out a girl from high school liked him because of how she acted when she saw him.
“In high school there was this girl that every time I would walk by her, her eyes would get real big and she’d give me this half smile type thing and eventually I figured out that she liked me a lot, it took me a while though. I started to realize what was going on and eventually asked her out on a date.” According to the book “The Definitive Book of Body Language,” by Allen and Barbara Pease, when it comes to dating women initiate the first move 90 percent of the time. The book states this is done with a simple few looks. First, a woman will find a man she’s interested in, look at him until he sees her, keep his gaze for five seconds and look away. The man stops and waits to see if she does it again, it states. If she is interested, she will do it a minimum of three times, and add a quick smile, which signals the green light for the man to approach her.
However, there are some men who will “play the odds” without an initial invite. The success rate with this technique, the book states, is low, since the man has to approach to a lot of women to be successful. According to the book, women and men will preen themselves when they encounter someone they are interested in. Preening includes straightening their hair, clothes, jewelry and adjusting themselves to look most favorable, usually facing each other completely. The man will oftentimes approach and try and make small talk to break the ice while the woman looks for an opportunity to touch him on the arm in an accidental way. it states. Women have 13 more more courtship signals than men do, the book states. These include tossing the head or flicking the hair to show that she cares how she looks. This allows her to let the pheromones from the armpit waft towards her perceived interest, it states. Women will also lick their lips, pout their lip, and use self-touching of the neck, throat or thigh.
Men do the majority of the talking at the beginning of a relationship because it’s a way for them to earn points with women, the book reports.
However, according to the book “Body Language” by Julius Fast, men can be a “lady’s man” by how he approaches women and how he is able to pick out women who will accept him the most. The book also states a man can notice if a woman is available by how she carries herself and by the way she stands or sits. The tone of voice a women uses can also be a big tip-off to a man to decide to stay or move on to the next girl.
Hunter Timbimboo, junior in nutrition, said the first thing he noticed about his current girlfriend is the way she would look at him.
“Our eyes would lock and her eyes were huge big brown eyes and we couldn’t pull away from each other,” Timbimboo said. “It was awesome, it was almost scary. But it just melted me. The first couple movies that we ever watched together when she sat by me, she would tilt her shoulders toward me. So I picked up on that really quickly. I guess that’s how I knew.”
