LETTER: Basketball fans need to wake up

Editor,

Going to school in Logan is almost as exciting as living in Provo. Lets face it, there is not much to do here besides going to a midnight movie and hanging out at Oakridge. I transferred from the University of Utah to USU a year ago. I hadn’t heard much about Logan other than we had a giant party called “The Howl,” and a good basketball team.

Watching the AGGIES play basketball last year was actually interesting and fun. The first game I went to was against Fort Lewis. I wasn’t sure if Fort Lewis was a college or an Indian tribe. The game was a no-contest. We blew them out in the first half. The game was interesting, but not as much as the crazy, intense fans. When the Cougars came to town, I knew they didn’t stand a chance. We ended up beating the Cougars because of our great fans. That was the most exciting basketball game I have ever been to. That’s what I call home-court advantage.

Last year was fun, but I expected this year too be even more exciting. So far, no good. Last Friday’s game almost put me to sleep. There were quite a few fans, but the intensity level was about as exciting as watching my nerdy friends play Halo 2. The crowd was dead, and so was our team. Last Friday’s game would have put an entire rest home to sleep. The first half was OK, but the second half was long and boring. I don’t blame the team, because when we made a good play, the crowd didn’t seem to notice. I felt that if I yelled at the ref or the opposing players I was going to get punished. It wasn’t that way last year. I think that we have a dynamite sound with our fans. I don’t know what happened but I don’t like it. I hope things change soon, or the last games I see will be against the Utes and the Zoobies.
