Caught on the third floor of the TSCHometown: Logan, Utah Age: 20Hobbies: “I like to chill.”

Utah Statesman: Why did you choose Utah State University?Siv-Quech Chiv: I got a scholarship here and it’s close to home.

US: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Chiv: Working hard at nursing.

US: What’s your favorite thing about USU?Chiv: The people I guess. I feel like home here. I’m always up here Multicultural Student Center]. There’s people that you always know up here. I always see people I know up here and I try to get involved. There are lots of opportunities for involvement on campus.

US: What’s your least favorite thing about USU?Chiv: The stereotypes and cliques. I mean there’s a lot of cliques wherever you go, but I think they’re really common here.

US: What five words best describe you?Chiv: Intelligent, fun-loving, outgoing, helpful, organized.

US: What’s your philosophy of life?Chiv: Live life to the fullest. Don’t let anything get in your way. Try to take it easy and overcome obstacles as best as you can. And try not to let the obstacles stop you from doing anything that you want to do.

US: What’s the last movie you rented or saw in the theater?Chiv: I saw “Secret Window” but fell asleep in the middle of it. Every movie I watch, I always end up falling asleep.

US: If you won an all-expense paid trip for two weeks, where would you go and why?Chiv: Southeast Asia. My parents are from there and I’ve never been there. I haven’t been outside of the United States and they [parents] haven’t been back. So I’d probably wan’t to go there and visit family I’ve never met before.

US: What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen on campus?Chiv: There are some pretty weird posters and advertisements up here. Like that “skank” one. (Skanksgiving banner for a Ska concert.)

US: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?Chiv: I’m not a risk taking person. I’ve been in a hot air balloon, but it wasn’t very risky though, I was attached to a rope.

US: If everyone was exactly like you, what would the world be like?Chiv: I get worried a lot. Academics are really important to me so I stress out and get too caught-up in school. So it would be a stressful place.

US: Who is the most famous person you’ve met?Chiv: I’m in the multicultural sorority and I met some of the founders that started the whole thing nationally, and they’re pretty famous in my eyes.

US: Describe the best day of your life?Chiv: When I earned my Greek letters for my sorority.

US: If you had five hours of free time right now, and money was not an issue, what would you do?Chiv: probably go shopping and sky dive and do adventurous stuff, and help people out, if they need it.

US: What characteristics do you look for in the opposite sex?Chiv: He has to be fun to hang around with and have good character.

US: What’s your ideal leisure activity?Chiv: Just chill with friends and catch up on things we haven’t talked about in a long time.

US: Who do you most admire in your life?Chiv: Probably my parents, because they came here with little and they’re pretty successful now. They had a rough time adjusting to the U.S., to the culture and language and people here. I really admire how far they’ve come.

US: What do you think is the biggest problem in our society today?Chiv: Having tolerance with different people. It would be cool if everyone would have a different perspective and try to understand where people are coming from – like put themselves in other people’s shoes. If everyone would have tolerance for each other there wouldn’t be war, racism and bigotry.

US: What’s your favorite word?Chiv: Last year it was shizzle, but I’m trying not to say it anymore. My friend was talking to me yesterday and she kept on saying how I used to always say it. But, I try not to say it anymore and I’m getting pretty good at it too. Now my favorite word is pizzazz.

US: What is your least favorite sound and smell?Chiv: I work in a nursing home and we have body alarms that go off all the time. And sometime at school I think I might be hearing one of the alarms. My least favorite smell is really bad body odor.

US: What’s your deepest darkest fear?Chiv: I always fear of failing – like at life or school – but pretty much, just failing in general.

US: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?Chiv: I think it would be cool to live in a South American country and learn Spanish.-jrsaunders@cc.usu.edu
