Utah State Has 41 Student-Athletes Receive Winter Academic All-WAC Honors

The Western Athletic Conference announced its winter all-academic teams recently and Utah State had 41 student-athletes recognized from the sports of gymnastics, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s indoor track & field.
 
Of its 41 academic all-WAC selections, Utah State had 19 student-athletes from women’s indoor track honored and 11 from men’s indoor track, along with six from gymnastics, four from women’s basketball, and one from men’s basketball.
 
Highlighting Utah State’s academic all-WAC honorees is senior track athlete Jessie Chugg, who has now earned academic all-WAC honors 11 times in her career, while fellow senior track athletes Daniel Howell and Kim Quinn each earned their ninth academic all-WAC honor.
 
Other significant honorees include senior track athlete Kali Hamby, who has now earned academic all-WAC honors eight times in her career, while fellow track athletes Brittany Fisher, Madison Jensen and Jordan McMurray each earned their sixth academic all-WAC honor.
 
Student-athletes who are earning academic all-WAC honors for the fifth time include track athletes Hollie Bosworth, Stephanie Burt, Philip Noble and Bailee Whitworth. Those student-athletes earning their fourth all-WAC honor include track athletes Eric Follett, Aubrie Haymore, Tyler Killpack, Kyle McKenna and Jennifer Schiess, and gymnast Haley Hogan. Three-time honorees include women’s basketball players Pua Furtado and Jenna Johnson, gymnast Rebecca Holliday, and track athletes BriCampbell, David Cluff, Keeley Eldredge, Kylie Hirschi and John Johnson.
 
Furthermore, of the 41 USU student-athletes to earn winter academic all-WAC honors, 35 are receiving the accolade for at least the second time.
 
Idaho had 52 winter academic all-WAC honorees, which included women’s swimming and diving, to lead the WAC. Utah State was second with 41 honorees, followed by New Mexico State (34), Hawai’i (29), San Jose State (25), Nevada (23), Fresno State (21) and Louisiana Tech (5).
 
To be eligible for the winter academic team, a student-athlete must have completed one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
