LETTER: How sacred is marriage?
Editor,
The proponents of Utah Amendment 3 want to guarantee marriage between only a man and a woman. This is because marriage is a sacred rite that can only be enjoyed fully by heterosexual couples.
But, if this is the case, why don’t we go one step further? If marriage can be protected by reserving it for a man and a woman, then shouldn’t divorce also be illegal?
It makes sense to me that if allowing homosexuals to marry weakens marriage, then so does divorce.
Why can’t homosexual couples enjoy something that some heterosexual couples seem to go through like Krispy Kreme doughnuts?
