Guttormsen says goodbye to Ag hockey
Jacob Guttormsen has left the hockey team to finish his pilot’s license and prepare for a Latter-day Saint mission.
Guttormsen was fourth on the team in total points last season.
“I don’t see it as quitting, just retiring for two years,” Guttormsen said. “I’ll be back in two years.”
Guttormsen made his decision last week and sat out last Saturday’s contest with Weber State.
Guttormsen said he is taking 17 credits this semester and is also finishing his pilot’s license, so he does not have the time he needs to play hockey.
“This is by far the best decision for me,” he said.
Guttormsen’s decision comes as the Aggies try to regroup after being humiliated 13-1 by the Wildcat’s Division I team.
USU will play the D-I squad again Friday.
“We’ll be doing a lot better than we did last time,” Aggie Nick Haase said. “We were disappointed with that last game and our play.”
Haase said the team will be doing a lot more hitting, skating and one-on-one drills this week to prepare.
“We’ll definitely beat these guys this season,” he said. “I know it. I know we can.”
