Keeton Placed On 2012 CFPA Offensive Awards Watch List

Utah State sophomore quarterback Chuckie Keeton was placed on the 2012 College Football Performance Offensive Awards Watch List it was announced Monday.
 
Keeton is one of 33 quarterbacks around the nation to make the list and is the only quarterback recognized from both the Western Athletic Conference and the state of Utah.
 
A native of Houston, Texas (Cyrpess Creek HS), Keeton started eight of his 11 games played in 2011 while throwing for 1,200 yards on 106-of-174 passing (.609) with 11 touchdowns. He also rushed for 293 yards on 68 carries for four touchdowns. Keeton only threw two interceptions in his first year and was the last Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) starting quarterback in the nation to throw an interception, throwing 149 straight passes before getting picked off in the Louisiana Tech game. Keeton finished the year as the second-best player at Utah State in total offense with 1,493 yards for an average of 165.9 yards per game.

Additionally, Keeton earned WAC Offensive Player of the week honors and was named the honorable mention national Quarterback of the Week by collegefootballperformance.com, as well as the WAC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for his school record tying five touchdown passes in USU’s 63-19 win against Wyoming. He was also named the National Freshman of the Week by Rivals.com for his performance in the season opener and near major upset at Auburn on Sept. 3, 2011 as USU lost 42-38. Keeton finished the 2011 season ranked fourth in the WAC and 46th in the nation in pass efficiency (137.41).
 
Keeton joins fellow Aggies Tyler Bennett and Kerwynn Williams who were both named to the 2012 College Football Performance Awards Watch List for special teams.
 
The College Football Performance Awards watch list is a rough guide, highlighting returning players with strong individual performances. All players are eligible for recognition at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration for weekly, annual, or career awards.
