LETTER: Sigma Chi Derby Days a success

Editor,

This letter is in response to Krista Hatch’s letter (Letters, Oct. 15) concerning Sigma Chi’s Derby Days. We would like to thank you for taking an interest in our organization’s philanthropy and the goals we are trying to achieve in conjunction with the Children’s Miracle Network. Also, we would like to thank the student body and Cache Valley community who was willing to open their hearts, and of course, their wallets, to help our cause. Our appreciation for their generosity is beyond words, as $2,500 was donated this year.

Most of all, much gratitude and praise must be given to the sororities for their contributions, as well as the amount of time and money they gave to make this year’s Derby Days a success. Much of the donations we receive come from the kindness of the women involved in these organizations.

A special thanks, goes out to the women of Kappa Delta, who were the champions of this year’s competition. This week could not have been completed without their help; their ideas on advertising, for example the “I love Sigma Chi” T-shirts, were a morale booster for everyone involved. By their willingness to spend $4 for a shirt, the amount of donations that were a direct cause from this approached $1,000. Their enthusiasm, spirit and involvement for this fund-raiser are above reproach.

With the help of every chapter and alumni throughout North America, Sigma Chi Fraternity has been able to raise over $4 million since 1992, when Utah State graduate and pro football hall-of-fame member Merlin Olsen introduced the Sigma Chi-Children’s Miracle Network Partnership.

Again, we would like to thank everyone who has been involved last week. It couldn’t be done without their help, and we can’t wait until next year’s Derby Days.
