Utah State hosts Beehive Showcase
Coming off a two-game home losing streak the Utah State club hockey team has four straight games to try and reverse its record. The annual Beehive Showcase started today at 4 p.m. in the George S. Eccles Ice Center in Logan, Utah, when Arizona State took on Montana Tech.
The showcase is a four-day, eight-game event that involves seven teams. Of the seven teams participating Utah State is the only team to play a game each day of the event. This year the showcase involves Utah State, Arizona State, Northern Arizona University, Texas A&M;, San Jose State, the University of Utah and Montana Tech.
“The biggest factor for us is going to be fatigue,” said Jon Eccles, the Utah State head coach. “The most games we’ve played back-to-back all year is two. Most teams will look to play a deeper bench and get more production from those guys.”
The Beehive Showcase comes to an end on Sunday when Utah State takes on Northern Arizona at 1 p.m.
On Friday the Aggies take on Arizona State at 7 p.m. and on Saturday they play Montana Tech at 7 p.m.
“We have to be prepared every game and come out with intensity,” said Utah State defenseman Mike Trimboli. “Three out of the four games we play are against top five teams so this is going to be the toughest weekend of the year but we are looking forward to it.”
