Jazz take down Warriors
The Utah Jazz hosted the Western Conference leading Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. The Jazz didn’t trail once in the game and came out on top 110-100.
Utah was helped in the game by its bench, which racked up 51 points from four players.
“Just come in off the bench and being ready to play. We all know that we’re going to get our minutes,” said Trey Burke who had 15 points and seven assists off the bench. “It’s about we, not me.”
Burke, Rudy Gobert and Trevor Booker all had double digits off of the bench while Elijah Milsap had nine.
The Jazz also benefited from a quiet night behind the arc for Golden State. The Warriors shot just under 30 percent from the 3-point line with only Stephen Curry and Leandro Barbosa making a 3-point shot in the game.
“We were fortunate. They missed some shots that they usually make,” said Utah head coach Quin Snyder. “That’s what you need to have happen against a team like that to win a game. We obviously played hard defensively, but they had some looks that just didn’t go.”
Gordon Hayward led the team with 26 points and also brought in a career-high 15 rebounds in the game.
“Tonight I got myself going getting some rebounds early. I think I had four or five early, and that kind of helped me get going,” Hayward said. “I was able to bring the ball down the court myself and get going in transition.”
Overall the Jazz had 55 rebounds, 14 more than the Warriors.
“We all know we have to rebound to win games,” Gobert said. “Especially against a team that shoots a lot of 3’s.”
Gobert had 10 rebounds of his own to go along with his 10 points and two blocks.
Booker had a season-high 17 points with three assists, seven rebounds and a blocked shot.
“When I step on the court I don’t like to let anyone outwork me; that’s what I take pride in, just working,” Booker said.
Booker had the team’s final seven points of the first half which lead to Utah’s 56-45 halftime lead.
“I made a shot. It got me going. My teammates found me again open, found me again open, and that’s how it happened,” Booker said.
The game was the first time this season that the Jazz did not trail at any point. The game was tied just once. The loss dropped Golden State to 36-8 on the season and was their second straight loss. Utah improved to 17-30.
