Houston, we have a victory
Utah State women’s soccer improved to 3-1-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over Houston Sunday afternoon at Chuck and Gloria Bell Field in Logan.
Utah State took an early lead with a fifth minute goal by junior Jayne Robinson. Robinson put away a rebound after Sophomore Wesley Hamblin took a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar.
Utah State increased its lead when junior midfielder Katie Flynn connected with junior forward Jessica Brooksby who headed the ball in. Brooksby’s goal put the Aggies up 2-0 in the 67th minute.
“Katie Flynn had a great individual effort getting down on the end line,” Brooksby said. “I was lucky enough to get on the end of it.”
The Aggies will next be tested on the road as they leave Utah for the first time this season. The road stand will be three games long and USU will take first take on Iowa in Missoula, Montana then Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington before closing out the trip against in-state rival BYU in Provo.
“We’ve been scoring some goals at home, but at home it’s comfortable. We’ve got great fans, and great energy.” said Aggie Head Coach Heather Cairns. “When you’re on the road, you have to manufacture that a little bit.”
After the road stand Utah State returns to Chuck and Gloria Bell Field Sept. 13 to take on Idaho State.
