CVTD receives potential bomb threat

When Cache Valley Transit Department workers opened an unclaimed laptop they found a hand written note that said “boom boom boom.”
“Of course that raised their suspicion,” said Lieutenant Mike Peterson of the Cache Valley Sherrif’s office.
The laptop was left behind on a bus from Hyrum at 11:00 a.m. and taken to the lost and found. It was opened to find information on who the laptop belonged to, when the note was found.
The CVTD evacuated the transit center, re-routed the busses and contacted the sheriff’s office about the threat and bomb technicians examined the laptop and determined that it would not damage more than the inside of the building.
“It’s already been handled, it’s already taken a bus ride, it’s already been sitting for a couple of hours before we even had any suspicion on it,” Peterson said. “It probably is not, but we’re going to err on the side of caution and analyze it and make sure that we’re dealing with something that truly is inert.”
The sheriff’s office came and their bomb technicians sent in a robot to pull out the laptop and detonate it.
The busses had re-routed to the North side of Smith’s and after the threat passed, the transit center opened again.
“This is a very rare occurrence,” said Todd Beutler, the general manager of the CVTD. “This is something that we don’t have happen at all really. But we appreciate our relationship with law enforcement. We know that we can contact them and we have a really good working relationship.”
