Leavitt shines in Aggie debut

For Dallin Leavitt, it was a long time coming – one year, eight months and 15 days to be exact. But last night against Weber State, the redshirt junior finally dawned a game uniform for the first time as an Aggie.

“It’s been almost two years since I’ve played in a live football game,” Leavitt said. “I feel really blessed and really grateful that my teammates were very supportive and my teammates as well. It felt good just to put a game uniform on. I’ve been putting a uniform on for two years, but it’s different when you put that game uniform on. A switch has to be flipped.”

In his debut, Leavitt started at strong safety and had the fourth most tackles on the game with six, four solo, two assisted and with one of those tackles going for an eight yard loss.

He also stole an interception out of the hands of Wildcat receiver Drew Batchelor as they both went up for a pass from Weber QB Jadrian Clark. Both players stretched out for the catch and somehow Leavitt wrestled the ball out as the two fell to the turf. That interception led to a Brock Warren 31-yard field goal that helped seal the eventual 45-6 victory Thursday night at Maverick Stadium.

“It was an emotional game for me,” Leavitt said. “I think at the beginning it was almost too emotional.”

Leavitt is a BYU transfer and sat out last year as per the NCAA’s transfer policy.
