Logan City Limits Friday recap

The second day of the Logan City Limits music and art began Friday evening in the streets of downtown Logan.

The first two shows of the night took place at Even Stevens restaurant on Main street. Guests could enjoy their food while jamming out with local artists Rorry Forbush and Taylor Garner. Forbush and Garner both played acoustic guitar and sang.

The night continued on with a art gallery walk through various shops in downtown Logan. There were many different types of art from prints, pottery and photography. Store fronts were creating a lot of traffic despite the cold weather. One artist on display was Kaile Akina. Akina’s art consisted of various prints and small cartoons.

“It’s always super scary (to put your art on display). Every artist wonders what people are going to think, but once you put it up and have it out there it is really cool. It is exciting,” Akina said.

The main show of the night was held at the WhySound venue on Federal Avenue. The first act of the night was a group called Uiniti featuring locals Mike Wechter and Emmi Smith. Wechter sang original songs while playing piano. Wechter’s unique style got everyone in the crowd clapping.

Wechter hoped that the crowd would be “hopefully big enough to crowd surf.”

The next group to take the stage was Mamma LongLegs. This all-girl trio of Allie Harris, Megan Simper and Julie Taquin rocked the Whysound venue with the acoustic and folksy music. All three were excited to be able to share their talents at this event.

“This event seems very people-friendly. This is a free show so hopefully this encourages students and others to get out. It is really cool to see this part of town is starting to become more populated,” Harris said.

On the second day of Logan City Limits, located at WhySound, the venue had so many people come that they hit capacity within the first hour on April 6.

By this point in the night the Whysound venue was having to monitor the flow of people coming in and out because it was too crowded. The last show of the night was Wildmon and the Treebeard Trio. The trio consisted of three brothers from North Logan. The trio along with Wildmon played into to the night with their blend of jazz and blues music.
