Cordingley sets career-best finish with top-20 score

Freshman golfer Colten Cordingley shot a career-low 5-under 67 during his final round on Tuesday to tie for 20th place at the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic held at the Whirlwind Golf Club-Cattail Course in Chandler, Arizona.

The Aggies as a team shot a 4-under 284 in the final round, which tied for the fourth-best team score of the day, and put them at a 9-over 873 for the event, good for 10th place in the 15-team field.

Cordingley’s 20th place finish is his best ever tournament finish, while his final round score of 67 is not only his career low for a round, but also the third-lowest round by an Aggie golfer this season.

The round was also Cordingley’s third round under par this season, and his second round in the 60’s. To add to that, it was also his first-ever top-20 finish in an event. He finished with a 1-under 215.

Other Aggies competing in the Cowboy Classic included senior Braxton Miller, who tied for 34th place with a 2-over 218. Sophomore Chase Lansford finished the tournament with a tie for 40th at 3-over 219. Fellow sophomore Hayden Eckert ended the round by finishing in a tie for 66th at 8-over 224, while redshirt freshman Andy Hess tied for 83rd at 14-over 230.

Utah State will be back on the course on Friday, April 20, where the team will compete in Bremerton, Wash. in the 2018 Mountain West Championship.
