End of the Year Bash 2018 recap

David Boyd, the lead singer of headliner New Politics, walked into the crowd midway through his second song at the 2018 End of the Year Bash.

The crowd held his legs up while he continued to sing without missing a note.

The Utah State University Spectrum was filled with dancing and singing Aggies throughout the performance of all three bands Saturday.

Flor, the opening act, is a new band from Oregon. The band got the crowd dancing with their original rock songs, including “Hold On” and “Back Again.”

“Everyone was here to have a good time,” said student Sadie Wise. “You could tell everyone on the floor was having fun.”

Next up was husband and wife, Us the Duo. They previously became famous for posting six-second videos of them singing on Vine, which landed them a record deal with Republic Records.

Even though Us the Duo has a softer sound than Flor, they kept up the crowd’s energy with a combination of covers and original songs.

“My favorite part is when Us the Duo started rapping,” said sophomore Bannon Greer. “It was original and it made me really want a rapper for next year’s End of the Year Bash.”

They finished their set with a mixture of songs like “The Way” by Ariana Grande and “Better Together” by Jack Johnson.

Headliner New Politics performed with energy during their hour-long set. They sang one song after another with very few breaks in between.

New Politics only consists of three members: lead singer Boyd, drummer Louis Vecchio and guitarist/pianist Soren Hansen.

Boyd included dancing, tumbling and acrobatics as he sang, ending the show with a back flip.

The crowd danced and sang along with the band, especially during “One of Us,” “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” and “Harlem.”

“I really liked the energy New Politics brought, especially during ‘West Side Kids’,” said sophomore Vince Winder.
