Aggies top ISU in weekend series
The Utah State baseball team came out on top at home this weekend in their series against Idaho State.
“We had a good weekend,” said right fielder Dallan Larsen. “Our pitching was really good and we strung together a lot of hits. All around it was a great team effort.”
The weekend started with an easy 13-3 win on Friday with pitcher/shortstop Michael Kress earning the first run for USU. Pitcher Pete Nielsen went six innings and allowed two runs and struck out nine batters. Larsen went deep in the fifth inning with on three-run home run. He had seven RBI’s in the three games this weekend.
The first game in a Saturday double-header ended 6-4, where the Aggies could credit their win to a strong start by adding four runs to the board in the first two innings. On the mound, Jack DeSpain lasted for six innings and allowed seven hits and four runs, while striking out nine and walking one.
The final game of the series ended in another blowout in the Aggies favor. With a 13-0 score, the game ended in the fifth inning due to mercy rule. In the second inning, the team put up seven runs which allowed them to be in control for the rest of the game.
Next week USU will go head to head against Montana State on Sunday, May 5, and Monday, May 6, at Ogden High School.
