President Cockett recognized at Days of 47

Utah State University President Noelle Cockett was recognized as a ‘pioneer of progress’ in KUTV’s annual Days of ‘47 Gala Thursday.

Cockett was honored as a recipient of the 2018 Pioneers of Progress awards in the science and technology category. She was recognized for her sheep genomics research specifically her work on “the identification of genetic markers associated with economically important traits in sheep,” according to her biography on the event’s website, and “the development of resources that advance research on the sheep genome.”

The Days of ‘47 Gala began in 1995 to “recognize service and achievement in modern-day pioneering,” in preparation for Utah’s infamous Pioneer Day celebrations.

Other recipients of the Pioneers of Progress award included Spencer F. Eccles in the business and enterprise category, Fred Esplin for education, health and humanitarian assistance, Mark and Sally Dietlein for historic and creative arts, Jeff Robbins for sportsmanship and athletics, and Scott W. Loveless for posthumous legacy.
