Aaron Wade and Dominik Eberle garner MWC Player of the Week honors
Every week the Mountain West conference announces the best player from every team, offensive, defensive, and special teams. This week the offensive player of the week went to Brett Rypien, the senior quarterback at Boise State. But that isn’t really all that impressive. The real story is that this week we have the pleasure of having not one but two Aggies named players of the week.
On the defensive side of the ball it was Aaron Wade with 10 stops, a broken-up pass, and most importantly, two interceptions. After all of this Wade is averaging 1.0 interceptions per game. This is the highest in the Mountain West Conference and tied for third in the nation. Thanks to those interceptions, Wade almost single-handedly stopped two of NMSU’s drives in their tracks helping to cause the 60 to 13 routing of NMSU.
For the special teams, wearing Aggie Blue is our very own Dominik Eberle. Anybody that remembers what happened last December in Arizona was anxiously awaiting Saturday night’s rematch with New Mexico State.
Without a doubt, Eberle was excited to show them what it means to be a Lou Groza Award finalist. Eberle was responsible for a NCAA record-tying 24 points and six total made field goals. Most importantly, three of them were at least 50 yards away from the posts in the endzone. Because of that, he single-handedly scored almost twice as much as the entire NMSU team.
