Utah State football early signing day wrap-up (with videos)
After an eventful couple of weeks in Aggie-land, the early signing period brings a welcome sense of familiarity and stability. While Utah State will certainly add to its incoming class — set to be announced in full on Feb. 6 — let’s take a look at the 14 young men who have already signed.
Utah State football 2019 recruiting class (scholarship athletes)
Ashton Adams, OL — 6-foot-4, 300 pounds
A native of Salem, Oregon, Adams earned Oregon Class 6A first-team all-Mid Valley and all-Mountain Valley honors his senior year. A multi-sport athlete, Adams was a three-year starter on the offensive line and also earned first-team all-conference honors as a wrestler his junior year.
Josh Calvin, QB — 6-foot-3, 190 pounds
Calvin led his team to a 9-3 record as a senior and a Suburban League title for the second year in a row. Hailing from Bellflower, California, Calvin passed for 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions his final season. He earned Long Beach offensive player of the week honors after a 12-of-14 for 258 yards and five touchdowns performance, and also threw for a career-high 412 yards in another game.
Aric Davison, OL — 6-foot-3, 305 pounds
Davison was a four-year starter for Richland high school in Washington and helped his team reach the state playoffs his first three seasons, including a 14-0 season capped by a 4A state championship in 2017. His team posted a 46-6 record in his four years on the offensive line. Davison will enroll at Utah State for the spring semester.
Keith Harris, S — 5-foot-11, 170 pounds
This past year, Harris was named first-team all-Bay League for his performance at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, California. He recorded two interceptions and a sack his junior year, and also scored two offensive touchdowns.
Cam Lampkin, WR — 5-foot-11, 165 pounds
Hailing from Mesquite, Texas, Lampkin caught 26 passes for 608 yards and six touchdowns, and also returned a number of kickoffs, including a 99-yard return for a touchdown. His performance was good enough to earn Texas 5A-1 Region II First-Team All-District 7 honors both his junior and senior seasons.
Christian LaValle, LB — 6-foot-0, 230 pounds
During his senior season, LaValle recorded 98 tackles, including nine for a loss and one sack, and added an interception, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, good enough for a spot on the California Interscholastic Federation first-team all-state list. A team captain, he led Mission Viejo High School to a 12-1 record and a league championship. He had a strong outing his junior season as well with 108 tackles and six double-digit performances. LaValle was a multi-sport athlete and won the state discus title in 2017 with a personal-best throw of 55.67 meters. Initially committed to Arizona State in June of 2017, LaValle was rated the 31st-best linebacker in the country and the 84th-best overall prospect in the state of California by 247sports.com. LaValle will enroll at Utah State for the spring semester.
Dean Rice, DL — 6-foot-4, 280 pounds
Rice was a three-year letterman at River Valley High School in Yuba City, California. He led his team to a spot in the playoff semifinals his senior season, and earned honorable mention all-Metro honors after his junior campaign.
Simon Thompson, LB — 6-foot-2, 210 pounds
A two-way athlete at West Salem High School in Oregon, Thompson was named the Mountain Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a quarterback, and also earned first-team all-conference honors as a quarterback and a safety. Defensively, he recorded 54 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble as a senior, and 68 tackles, four interceptions, three pass breakups and two fumble recoveries as a junior. He also won a 6A track and field championship in the 110-meter hurdles as a junior as he led his team to a state championship. Thompson was ranked as the eighth-best recruit in Oregon and the 102nd-best athlete in the country by 247sports.com.
Jaymason Willingham, LB — 6-foot-3, 215 pounds
A native of Lacey, Washington, Willingham led his team to a 10-2 record and a league title, earning himself first-team all-Area honors as a linebacker and a spot on The Seattle Times’ all-state football team. He was also named the South Puget Sound League 2A Defensive MVP for a senior performance in which he recorded 124 tackles, including 15 sacks and 22 tackles for a loss, with two forced fumbles. He also led the team offensively where he rushed for nearly 1,200 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. As a senior, Willingham led the team in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, yards per carry, tackles, tackles for loss and sacks. That season followed up a junior season in which he earned first-team honors after a 120-tackle performance, and a sophomore season where he recorded 96 tackles and four sacks. Willingham is considered the eighth-best recruit in Washington and the 83rd-best athlete in the country by 247sports.com
