Big-city man in a small college town – USUSA’s Cooper Low

“IT’S A GREAT DAY” tweeted Cooper Low in all caps on April 1. Nothing more, nothing less.

Those who know Low might be able to picture him typing this tweet on his cell phone while his favorite song (which he also calls his theme song) “Don’t Stop Me Now” by the rock band Queen plays in the background.

“That’s why they call me Mister Fahrenheit” might be the words that are playing as Low pushes send on his message of positivity.

For Low, working hard, dreaming big and expressing himself through his creativity are the things that have him “traveling at the speed of light” with no sign of slowing.

“It’s hard to put yourself out there, but it’s also really important to me,” Low said about his victory in the Utah State University Student Association Election season. “Election week was super tough, but I’m so grateful to have won.”

Low, a sophomore studying Business Administration and Marketing, will be the 2019-2020 USUSA Student Events Vice President. Low has been involved with multiple activity groups on campus including the Blue Crew, the activities committee and The Hurd, and he is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

“Being involved with a lot of things has given me a lot of different perspectives,” Low said. ‘I’m more aware of the concerns of the students and can better network with others.”

Low hopes to use this experience to represent and advocate for all students at USU.

“I’m not one to just sit by,” Low said. “I want to represent everyone, including those who don’t think USU is an amazing place.”

Low said his goal is to be an active member on the executive council and make events bigger in order to draw out larger crowds.

“No more of the same old, same old,” Low said. “I want to help maintain the reputation and tradition of university events, but I want to make them better.”

Low said that USU wasn’t always his school of choice and that he almost went to the University of Utah.

“A friend showed me the student section and campus life here and I just knew that was the place I wanted to be,” Low said.

Low is the youngest of three sons and said that he is the “black sheep” of the family because he is the most creative. Low was born in Las Vegas and then grew up in Cedar City before coming to Logan for school.

“I kind of perpetuate the best of both worlds: that big city feel, and the small town vibe. I love them both,” Low said.

Low’s fiancé Lauren is a graphic design major and the two met at USU a year and a half ago. They will be getting married later this year. Together they enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities as well as trying new foods.

Low also considers himself a closeted musical junkie and said that he really loves Disneyland.

“It has inspired me to be super extra in my day-to-day life,” Low said.

As Low takes on the position of USUSA Student Event Vice President, he said that he has “all his fellow Aggies to thank” for making him who he is.

“Aggies have had a role in making me what I am today,” Low said. “I found my place here at this university because of all my fellow Aggies, and I can’t wait to serve them.”
