Jordan Love declares for 2020 NFL Draft

Utah State football quarterback Jordan Love announced Tuesday he would be entering the 2020 NFL draft and will forgo his senior season with the Aggies.

“Ever since I was a kid, I have always dreamed of playing in the National Football League,” Love said in a post on social media. “After spending the past four years at Utah State University, I am blessed and humbled to now have that opportunity to pursue my dream and I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for helping me get to where I am today. With that being said, I have decided to forgo my senior season and enter the 2020 NFL Draft. I will always be an Aggie.”

Love will have one more game to play for his school, confirming in the tweet that he would put on the helmet one last time for Utah State’s bowl game in Frisco, Texas against Kent State.

In his time at Utah State, Love set five single-season passing records, including 32 touchdown passes, 3,567 passing yards, seven 300-yard passing games, 234 points responsible for and being named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week five times, all of which were set during his breakout sophomore campaign in 2018. This season hasn’t been as prolific for the Bakersfield native, but that hasn’t stopped him from receiving constant attention from national media outlets and NFL teams. He has often been praised for his work ethic and humility, acting as a consummate professional on and off the field.

“Jordan and his family have been tremendous throughout this process, and he is making this announcement now so it’s not a distraction to the team and his teammates leading up to the bowl game,” said Utah State head coach Gary Andersen said in a press release. “Jordan has been a great student-athlete and is a tremendous teammate, and we are excited for his future in the NFL. Go Aggies!”

Love, who will receive his bachelor’s degree from Utah State this month in exercise science, was a fan-favorite with his fellow Aggies and expressed appreciation for the experiences he had while at Utah state.

“To the fans, especially the HURD, thank you for all of your support. Spending Saturday nights with my brothers at the Mav, playing in front of all of you, is something I will always cherish.”

Over the course of his time at Utah State, Love is 659-of-1,086 (.607) passing for 8,283 yards with 57 touchdowns and 28 interceptions, and ranks second all-time in school history in passing yards and attempts, third in touchdown passes, completions and total offense (8,670 yards), and fourth in completion percentage. Love also ranks first all-time in school history with 11-career 300-yard passing games and has four completions of at least 80 yards, which is also a school record.

Aggie fans will be able to watch Jordan Love take the field for his final game with the school Friday, Dec. 20 when Utah State takes on Kent State in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl in Frisco, Texas. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time and will be aired  on ESPN 2. It can also be listened to on 92.3 KBLU-LP Aggie Radio.
