USU Men’s Hoops game against Weber State Canceled

There appears to be a Covid-19 outbreak within the Utah State men’s basketball program.

The Aggies (2-3) game against in-state rival Weber State (2-0) on Saturday has been canceled, due to “positive COVID-19 results at Utah State,” according to a press release from the university.

The teams are trying to reschedule the game for a time later this season. The Aggies Tuesday, Dec. 15 contest at home against Dixie State is also in question.

Last week, it was announced that head coach Craig Smith had tested positive for the virus. He was unable to coach in last Saturday’s contest against BYU which resulted in a 67-64 defeat, and Tuesday’s game against the College of Idaho, in which the Aggies won 90-64.

Four different Aggies were unavailable to play Tuesday night due to “medical protocols,” including junior guard Marco Anthony, and freshmen guard’s Max Shulga, Zahar Vedischev, and Karson Stastny.

Although game cancellations are not abnormal in our current climate, the timing is not ideal for Utah State, as they will likely have just five games under their belt going into their first game of conference play on Dec. 21 against San Jose State.
