Meet your new student advocate vice president-Ethan Conlee

Ethan Conlee said he is excited to serve the students of Utah State University as its next student advocate vice president.

Conlee is from Pleasant Grove and will be a junior next year; he is majoring in international studies. He said he chose to attend USU “on a whim,” but that he loves the school and especially enjoys the people he’s met so far.

“I expect the friends I have made at Utah State to last me a lifetime,” he said. “Even beyond my friends, everyone I talk to is usually super friendly.”

Conlee initially got involved with campus government through the Government Relations Council.

“I have always been interested in civics and government,” he said. “After a year on the council, I felt like I had some good ideas about how to represent students here on campus.”

Conlee said one of his goals for the 2021-2022 school year is to make students more aware of on-campus resources.

“I really want to expand student awareness of myVoice and other resources my position offers,” Conlee said. “A lot of times as students I think we live beneath our privileges in terms of what the university offers.”

myVoice is a program offered through every student’s myUSU account. Through myVoice, students are able to share comments, concerns or suggestions with the USU Student Association.

Conlee said the thing he’s looking forward to most next year is getting to know students. He also said he has some big plans in store.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but part of my job as student advocate vice president is to help students become informed about civic and political issues,” he said, “so we’re planning some pretty cool events that we think will be both informative and also exciting.”

Noah Giles, a fellow student at USU, said he’s known Conlee ever since they both had a crush on the same girl in ninth grade.

Giles called Conlee “one of the most enthusiastic people I know.”

“If you can get him to talk about something he’s passionate about, he’ll talk forever,” Giles said. “He’s also the funniest and wittiest person on this planet. He always has something funny to say.”

Giles said another thing he likes about Conlee is how open-minded he is.

“I think he always tries to see both sides of an argument before coming to a conclusion,” Giles said.

Giles said Conlee will be a great student advocate vice president because of how much he cares about others.

“I think he genuinely cares about everyone he comes into contact with and is always willing to help people out with whatever they need,” he said.
