USUSA sends out press release encouraging students to get the vaccine

On Thursday, the Utah State University Student Association, or USUSA, sent out a press release that encouraged all students to get the vaccine.

This statement follows the announcement from Utah State University on Aug. 27 requiring all students to be vaccinated by the start of spring semester.

The purpose of the announcement was to show that all members of USUSA want to promote good health and well-being by inviting students to get vaccinated.

In the press release, Lucas Stevens, the USUSA president, stated that vaccines are the most effective and efficient way to win the fight against COVID-19 and its variants.

Stevens also pointed out that it is the most sustainable way to continue to have events, activities and classes remain in-person, which has remained an important goal for post-pandemic recovery.

“We want to see you face-to-face at all of  the events and traditions that make the Aggie experience so exceptional,” he said. “But, we  cannot move forward from this pandemic without uniting as a student body – everyone must take individual responsibility and action.”

The press release also made an invitation to students to reach out and contact any member in the USUSA to talk about and discuss the matter. Stevens said that they are representatives and will still listen and be an advocate.

Celeste Rodriguez, a member of USUSA as the CHaSS senator stated, “Students look to their student leaders and peers for communication from the university. We are there to let students know this is a safe and necessary mandate to allow for a safer school.”

Other members of the USUSA have also taken to social media to repost and promote the press release to make sure students know where they stand.

The statement ended by stating the situation was ultimately up to the student, however, they hope that choice will mean getting vaccinated.

“I would encourage students to get vaccinated not only for their own health but for the health of those around them,” Rodriguez said. “This vaccine is going to allow campus life to get back to normal, but only if everyone does their part.”

Stevens concluded the statement and said, “Choose to protect yourself and those around you and keep USU student life as vibrant as it can be.”
